MOVing To SQL 2005 on Crystaltech.com

I have spent the last 2 months or so designing and modeling my new application backend in SQL Server 2005 Express edition.

I am ready to move it to a production copy of SQL Server 2005.

How do I go about this?

What kind of words can I put into google to bring some sort of results.

I have been looking in many places but no luck on how to take all the tables I have made (some with data, some not) and copy them to a live SQL 2005 Server.

Thanks in Advance for any help.

When I right-click on the Database in the Manager, I choose Tasks..

But Import / Export options are NOT THERE.

What do I do?

Why is this option not in my instance of SQL Express.

Thank you.

|||Depending on how you want the database hosted you could use detach/attach, backup/restore or scripting of schema and data.|||

How can I produce a schema? I'm assuming that is what I need to do. I am moving the database from my local machine (SQL Server Express) to a hosted SQL Server 2005 machine.

Thank you for your help,

Jon

|||You would need to write a few lines of code that call SMO.|||Jon,
I am in the same boat with my Express db. I have signed up with CrystalTech for hosting. Did you find a good solution to your problem?

I don't understand this. In this example, are you chaning a .mdf file on
one drive to a .ldf file on another drive?
|||Yes
I prefer to separate log amd data files.

Actually I think to be perfectly clear, between the first ALTER DATABASE and
the AER (sic) DATABASE the step Uri assumed and didn't type out is:
xcopy b.mdf "o:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\b.mdf"
xcopy bbbb.ldf "d:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\b.mdf"
at the CMD prompt.
Then do the following 3 ALTER statements.

Once this is done, do the programs that use the database have to be adjusted

Moving SQL Express data to SQL Server 2005 Dev?

Hi gang,
Sorry for the bloody obviousness of this quetion, but I'm a unix/mysql
guy who's been tasked with moving an web app developed with SQL
Express (specifically RedDot CMS) to SQL Server 2005 Developer, and,
having literally NO working experience with the Microsoft products, am
wondering how one would migrate data from SQL Express to SQL Server
proper...
Any help or advice in this matter is most appreciated, I've trolled
this group but found no concrete info. Reading the documentation is
says it can be done at time of install, but, given my apprehension of
MS products reliability, is this a safe way to move a mission critical
DB?
Thanks a million,
Cheers

SQL Server Express uses the same engine and has the same file format as the
other editions of SQL Server. So you can take a backup of the database from
Express and restore it on another edition, you can detach the database and
attach it on another edition, or you can upgrade the Express edition to a
higher edition.

Moving SQL 2005 Express dbs using SQL Server Management Express Studio?

Is it possible to move a SQL 2005 Express database using the SQL Server
Management Express 2005 Studio tools? I am trying to move the default
databases for Sharepoint MOSS 2007 from a C: partition to a D: partition,
and would like to know if I can do this with the SME 2005 tools, rather than
using the command line method in KB224071.
Also, is there a list of what the default databases are for MOSS 2007, so I
can make sure that I move all the databases?
Thanks,
Rob G.

I am not sure about SQL Express Manager, but you can always use sp_detach_db
and sp_attach_db from a command prompt and SQLCMD see

Moving SQL 2005 Express dbs using SQL Server Management Express Studio?

Is it possible to move a SQL 2005 Express database using the SQL Server
Management Express 2005 Studio tools? I am trying to move the default
databases for Sharepoint MOSS 2007 from a C: partition to a D: partition,
and would like to know if I can do this with the SME 2005 tools, rather than
using the command line method in KB224071.
Also, is there a list of what the default databases are for MOSS 2007, so I
can make sure that I move all the databases?
Thanks,

Moving SQL 2005 Express Databases

As part of the installtion for my Blackberry Professional Software SQL 2005
Express was installed. Unfortuantly during the install I was only able to
specify where the databases for the blackberry server were placed. The rest
of the SQL 2005 Express databases were placed on C. Is there a way to move
them to my F drive were my Blackberry databse is stored.
George,
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189133.aspx This page is a
link to two pages, one for user databases and one for system databases.
That should give you a cookbook to follow.

How to move SQL Server databases to a new location by using Detach and
Attach functions in SQL Server
