Moving Users

How can I export users from one SQL 2000 server and
recreate them on another, maintaining the same
permissions they have on he first server without having
to do it manually?
Thanks

Moving RS To A New Web Server Problems

Like several other users I have had problems moving to a new web server:
1) backup existing RS databases on database machine
2) delete existing RS databases on database machine
3) install RS on new Web Server
3a) allow RS to create databases on the original database machine using the
same connection ID
4) delete RS databases from database machine
5) restore original databases to database machine
6) access new web server and;
6a) receive a message that the database is not activated and get pointed to
BOL
6b) get pointed to a KBase article THAT DOES NOT EXIST! <834304>
7) use the (unclear) BOL documentation to issue the command:
rsactivate -udomain\username -ppassword -c"C:\{path}\rsreportserver.config"
8) get back an error message:
Failure To Start Web Server.
NT Service Not Started.
9) kick a small dog and write this note.
thanks in advance for your help.

ReportService and IIS. I had to do the same thing before:
1) Backup the keys
2) install the RS on the new Web Server
3) Restore the keys
4) It worked for me. Did not need to use rsactivate.

- Remove Reporting Services Completely from the Web server machine.
- Reboot the computer
- Install SQL standard on the Web services machine (this is temp. only)
- Install reporting services and select the local SQL server
- It should work fine with no reports defined
- use rsconfig.exe to point to the rs database server
- use rskeysmgmt to restore the keys
- restart ReportService service and IIS
- If every thing works fine, you can remove SQL Server from the web server box
Hope this will help

Moving Report Builder reports to new server

I have a development server setup with Report Builder that our users have been testing out. They have a number of reports that they have created on this dev server.

We now have our live environment all setup and I'd like to move their Report Builder reports to the new server for them so they don't have to recreate them.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks.

The Report Builder reports are stored in the report catalog just like the Report Designer reports. There are several options available for moving report definitions ranging from manually exporting and uploading them one by one to handling this programatically. I would recommend you try the Jasper Smith's Report Scripter to automate the process. Remember to script and deploy not only the report definitions but the the data source and the model.

Hello all,
I need to move over all the users in 6.5 into 2000, but when i created the
script to create the logins, the passwords came in as null into the new 2000

New SQL Server DBAHi,
The method to transfer the logins with the password from SQL Server 6.5 to S
QL Server 2000 is
to upgrade the databases using "upgrade wizard". There is no documented way
to move logins with password using scripts.
But there is undocumented method method to do this. see the below link. I ha
ve never tried this.

in ?
sysusers in the msdb db & sysxlogins in the master db '

Logins -- Will be residing in SYSXLOGINS table of Master database.
Users - Will be residing in each database inside SYSUSERS table. Users
inside this table will have prev. to access the database, apart from users
fall in SYSADMIN fixed role.
How to transfer syslogins between servers.

Transferring users:-
Users will be automatically transferred once you restore the databases into

thks for the links it's very useful
for the sysusers in each databases if i do not want to
do a restore for some reasons (i.e i do not want the same
databses in the new server) , this will mean that i might
as well re-create all the users as the "old users" will be
pointing to the old databases '

Easy way will be generate the SQL Script for the user from each of the
databases in the source server and execute it in destination server.
1. In enterprise manager .. Select the database
2. Right click above the database and select "Generate SQL script
3. Go to "OPTIONS" Tab
4. Select the "Script database users and roles"
5. Go back to general tab and click Preview button
6. Click copy button and paste in the query analyzer window of destination
server.
7. Select the appropriate database and execute the script
Do the same for all databases.

Do the same for all databases.

moving logins & users

Hi ,
I need to move the logins & users from one SQL 2000
server to another SQL 2000 server , how shld i do that ?
and what are the tables do these logins & users resides
in ?
sysusers in the msdb db & sysxlogins in the master db ?
thks & rdgs
Hi,
Logins -- Will be residing in SYSXLOGINS table of Master database.
Users - Will be residing in each database inside SYSUSERS table. Users
inside this table will have prev. to access the database, apart from users
fall in SYSADMIN fixed role.
How to transfer syslogins between servers.
http://www.databasejournal.com/featu...le.php/2228611
Transferring users:-
Users will be automatically transferred once you restore the databases into
the destination server. So no need to transfer manually for
each databases.
Thanks
